Ally Carter Author of The Gallagher Girls Series Visits

Sign made by Ms. “Mayo” in the library

On Monday, September 16th, ARS was honored to welcome New York Times Bestselling Author, Ally Carter, author of both the Gallagher Girls  and The Heist Society series. Ann Richards was the first stop on Ally’s tour for her most recent book, United We Spy, the conclusion to beloved Gallagher Girls series.

The Gallagher Girls series follows Cammie Morgan on her journey through her unique high school career as a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, which on the outside is a school for female geniuses, but is really a school for spies. That’s right, spies. Over the course of the six book series, Cammie and her friends fight criminals, crack codes, and are some of the top spies (and students) at the Gallagher Academy. In book six, Cammie and her friends have their biggest challenge yet, and they still have to make it to graduation.

Ally Carter entertained a large group of students from both middle and high school at her assembly in the cafeteria on Monday. She discussed writing the Gallagher series, her journey through publishing, her recommendations for aspiring writers, and threw in a tad bit of information about her next series, Embassy Row. (To find more information about Embassy Row, check out Ally’s blog post about it here.) She set aside a good portion of her presentation for questions, and received questions on a variety of topics, but mostly about writing. Carter had tip after tip ready to throw out, including, “There is no such thing as writer’s block”, to “Write what you would read”.

After the presentation, Ally signed both student’s copies of her books in the library, and the author chair, which is now covered in signatures. Georgia Moore, an eighth grader, now possesses the first signed copy of United We Spy, since it only came out Tuesday and we received copies in advance. Ally was happy to answer any questions students had, as well as taking pictures and throwing out some jokes along the way. Throughout the entire time at ARS, Ally Carter was smiling, excited, and happy to be here, and we, happy to have her.
