6th graders experience first day at Ann Richards

One hundred and forty-six sixth graders came for their first day of middle school at Ann Richards on Monday, August 25. They participated in many of the school’s first-day rituals.

“I think I had a pretty good day,” said Olivia Benavidez, an incoming sixth grader at Ann Richards.

When asked about their emotional state the morning before, many had the same response.

“Yes, I was [nervous],” said Hannah McIntyre, another sixth grader. “[By the end of the day] I wasn’t nervous at all anymore.”

Many sixth graders felt this way on their way to their first day of middle school.

“Before I came to school, I was so nervous.” said Keji Jerkins, a sixth grader. “I was wondering around the house trying to calm myself down.”

But Jerkins was pleased with her arrival. Sixth graders, like their big sisters, experienced the Starwalk, the large morning assembly, and saying the mission statement as a group for the first time.

“Everyone greeted me with a smile,” said Jerkins.
