Casey Garcia

“My gut says I need to be at Brown.”

Casey Garcia looked for colleges out-of-state. She was accepted into UT Austin, Brown, SMU, Fordham, New York, and UT Dallas. Casey was torn between Brown and UT Austin, and ultimately chose Brown. Casey looks forward to meeting people from all over the place, the cold weather in Rhode Island, and she will miss her family, Texas food, and the warm weather.

“I looked for colleges with school spirit, and no stuck-up people.”

Jadzia Cortez applied to schools with school spirit, frequent events, and, as Jadzia said, “Not here.” Jadzia was accepted into Michigan State, Bel Haven, Dallas Baptist, Abilene Christian, UNT, and Union. She chose UNT because it was the most affordable school. Jadzia looks forward to the musical environment of UNT, its festivals, and will miss her younger siblings when she leaves.

Amethyst Alston

“I look forward to being near the beach.”

Amethyst Alston only applied to colleges with strong interior design programs that were far away from Austin. Amethyst will attend A&M Kingsville. Amethyst looks forward to being close to the beach while she is in school, specifically Corpus Christi, and Port Aransas. Amethyst’s companion Casey Garcia chimed in on what Amethyst has to look forward to, “First of all, the mascot is a javelina, it can’t get any better than that.” Amethyst will miss the friends she has made at ARS.

Elizabeth Palafox

“I look forward to the football games. I’ve never been to one, that’s really awkward!”

Elizabeth Palafox applied to colleges in Texas based off of their cost and her experience touring the campus. Elizabeth was accepted to Texas Tech, Saint Edwards, and A&M. Elizabeth chose A&M because of its exceptional biochemistry program, the school’s ability to help her succeed after college, and its friendly campus. Elizabeth looks forward to A&M football games, living on her own (and struggling, as Elizabeth put it), and she will miss her family and dog the most. ‘

Sara Calvo

“I look forward to Trinity’s free nachos every Wednesday.”

Sara Calvo applied to private schools in Texas because a large public school seemed overwhelming. Sara was accepted to Trinity, TCU, Baylor, Southwestern and SMU. Sara chose Trinity because it was close to Austin, but not too close, and because it was a private school. Sara laughed as she said that SMU only offered her $4,500, “Where did they expect me to get the other $63,000?” Sara looks forward to trying things on her own, and, “The free nachos every Wednesday”, however Sara will miss her family.
