December 10, 2016
Even though some of us may have began singing these festive songs at the start of November, now with Thanksgiving is over, and it’s really time to get in the spirit with these Christmas classics, in no particular order, and even new renditions!
- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
This classic originally sung by Judy Garland, later recorded by Frank Sinatra, has stayed popular over the years since 1944. It’s slow melody gives a good warm vibe to the winter chill, and sets the mood for pretty Christmas lights and hot cocoa.
- Feliz Navidad
On the other end of the Christmas music spectrum is a quick beat Christmas song that everyone sings from the top of their lungs, even if some don’t know exactly what they’re saying. This christmas hit by José Feliciano originated in Puerto Rico, having predominantly spanish lyrics. This song is cheerful, and constantly sang with laughter and smiles.
- The Christmas Song
The title says it all, this is the Christmas song! With another slow beat and warming lyrics this song proves itself to get everyone in a Christmas mood. Just like Nat King Cole sings, “Although it’s been said, many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you.”
- Last Christmas
Winter time is that time of the year where for some reason some people just want a relationship for the holidays, maybe even just the holidays. Even at that, maybe don’t dump someone the day after Christmas, or do, because an amazing song, like this tune by WHAM! might just come out of it that will put us all in our feelings.
- Santa Baby
Some of us start planning that Christmas list a bit earlier than others, and that might make a big ol’ list. With this Christmas song by Eartha Kitt, we too can realize we’re not the only ones with a bit of a ridiculous list.
- Mistletoe
Okay, hear me out on this. Justin Bieber changed our little preteen worlds with this song back in 2011. And although not a classic (yet) this earned a spot on the list for its modern pop twist to Christmas music. Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without a song about meeting someone under the mistletoe.
- You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
Thurl Ravenscroft saved all our Christmas fanatic hearts with this amazing song from an amazing movie. We all know someone who sulks on the couch and just doesn’t understand the hype around Christmas, and we thankfully we have a song to sing to them.
- Carol of The Bells
You’re lying if you say you haven’t tried to sing all three parts of this complex Christmas song. End of story. Originally written by Mykola Leontovich, it wasn’t even supposed to be a Christmas song, but let’s all be thankful the lyrics were changed for this literal masterpiece.
- Jingle Bell Rock
If not for the Christmas spirit, then please for the iconic Mean Girls scene. Yeah, you know the one. Who can resist dancing to this song with it’s fun beat and cute lyrics like “What a bright time, it’s the right time To rock the night away”. Even the meanest of Grinches enjoy this tune.
- All I Want For Christmas is You
This timeless classic by Mariah Carey changed the game for Christmas songs everywhere. From the slow start to the quickly changing melody, this song has topped the charts. I mean, c’mon, that high note though. This song has gotten some attention being covered by many like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, the cast of Glee, Fifth Harmony, and probably you at every Christmas party ever.
