The Marching Stars made their first appearance this season at the AISD Marching Band Jamboree this week.

“I like to go to Band Jamboree every year with the goal of showing a new improved version of the Marching Stars, to show everyone how much we as a band are improving,” said Reyna Ostos, leader of the trumpet section of the Ann Richards Marching Band. “I believe we accomplished that, I know we had a few mistakes marching wise, but I think it was one of our better run throughs of the show.”

Other members of the band, like Georgia Hernandez,  also noticed a change on the image the band left on the Austin community.

“I think our band left a new impression on everybody, and made everyone take us more serious because we had an actual show to perform.” said Georgia Hernandez, captain of the color guard.

“To get better every time we are on the field, even if it is just during practice, and to be more confident in ourselves when we perform,” said Savannah Pena, Co-Drum Major of the Stars Marching Band, when asked about her goals for the rest of the marching season.

Assistant Director of the Stars Marching Band, Amanda Elizondo, agreed with Pena.

“I want them [Marching Stars] to have the best performance they can have, and not let the amount of people watching or the new environment change the progress they have all made, and the performance they can have,” said Elizondo.

Senior Georgia Hernandez has already accomplished this goal.

“I used to not like Jamboree because I felt embarrassed and actually dreaded it, but this year changed my whole perspective because I was proud of what our band performed as a whole,” said Hernandez. “I am now looking forward to UIL.”

The Marching Band will perform at UIL at the end of October, following their last performance in November.

Looking  to the next steps the Marching Stars will take as they continue on through the season, “we need to keep working as hard as we have been working, and keep elevating the level of performance of our show,” said Elizondo. Their next performance will be at a US Bands competition in early October.
